Things To Consider When Looking To Minimize A Double Chin

A double chin could be caused by a number of factors, including age, heredity, or diet. As many as 80 percent of people who have double chins are unhappy about it, according to WebMD. However, people who have double chins now have a wider variety of ways to reduce the fat that causes a double chin, including some non-surgical alternatives.

Surgical Methods

Facelifts and liposuction are among the surgical methods for limiting the appearance of double chins. A few newer options include treatments that use multiple techniques, such as combining laser treatments with liposuction. However, all of these treatments come with a lot more potential side effects and more down time than non-surgical methods for improving the appearance of a double chin.

Non-Surgical Methods

In some cases, weight loss or performing certain exercises may help improve the look of a double chin, but this isn't necessarily true for most people. For those who want a more reliable method for removing this extra submental fat, there are two main non-surgical methods for removing the fat that causes a double chin. These are Kybella treatments and a type of Coolscupting called CoolMini that uses a smaller attachment. Both procedures result in little or no downtime, making them a good option for people who are busy and can't take time off of work.

A Kybella treatment involves getting 12 to 20 injections (or as many as 50 for severe cases), according to WebMD. This FDA-approved treatment helps to dissolve the fat in the area and works best with moderate to severe double chins. For the best results, it usually takes three to six sessions spaced at least one month apart, after which the injection area may be numb, red, swollen, or bruised for a time before the final results are visible.

The CoolMini process typically requires only one or two treatments, but works best with older individuals, as their skin is looser and better able to be sucked into the device for cooling during the treatment process. It works by freezing the fat and can remove up to one-third of that present. The CoolMini can also result in temporary redness or numbness, but it tends to disappear a bit more quickly than that which is due to a Kybella treatment. As with Kybella treatment, it takes about a month for the full results of the procedure to become clear. For some people, CoolMini treatment may also be a bit less expensive, as they may need fewer sessions.
