Summer is a great time to let your hair down and have some fun. Unfortunately, once you let your hair down, you're likely to find that you're losing some of it. You might not realize this, but hair loss is quite common during the summer. If your hair is already thinning, the last thing you want to do is speed up the process when the temperatures start to climb. Luckily, there are some steps you can take to put a stop to summer hair loss. Here are four of those steps.
Give Your Scalp a Massage
If you like to unwind with a relaxing massage during the summer, remember that your hair will benefit from one too. In fact, you can slow down hair loss by giving your scalp a good massage at least two or three times a week. The massage helps to increase blood flow, which not only slows down the thinning process but also encourages new hair growth. For added benefit, get your hair damp and massage in some jojoba oil once a week.
Go Natural for a While
If you process your hair and use a lot of chemicals on your hair, summer is the perfect time to take a break and go natural. The added chemicals and heat styling can wreak havoc on your hair during the summer, and lead to hair loss. Prevent hair loss by keeping things natural during the summer. Use mild detergents on your hair, cut back on the heat styling, and wait until the temperatures cool down to process your hair.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
If you don't get enough water during the summer, you're hurting more than your body. You're also hurting your hair. You might not have thought about this, but your hair thrives on moisture, including the moisture it gets from the water you drink each day. If you're not properly hydrating yourself during the summer, you're reducing the beneficial moisture that your hair has to use, which could lead to thinning. Avoid the thinning by drinking plenty of water all summer long.
Choose Your Hat Carefully
If you've been wearing a hat to protect your skin, you're doing great. However, if you're wearing a tight-fitting hat, you could be causing your hair to be thin. Excess heat plays a big role in summer hair loss. Unfortunately, when you wear a tight-fitting hat, your scalp is getting heated up, and circulation is being lost. Protect your skin, and prevent hair loss at the same time, by wearing a loose-fitting hat whenever you go outside this summer.
